Help me, I want to know how to get my device activated at home

This guide will take you through getting your device activated at home or any other location that is not the store.

It is important to note that you will not be able to manage your device via the cloud until you have registered it. This guide will take you through setting up the BRCK at any other location with internet access.

To get your device activated at home, then follow these simple steps.

Prerequisite

Please ensure you have the following in order to follow this guide step by step:

  • A BRCK
  • A USB cable
  • A personal computer or smart phone

Introduction

We would prefer if you activate your device at the store. However, sometimes you do not have time for this and want the device to work out of the box. Not all is lost, you can still use your device. Please follow this guide in order to get your device activated. The BRCK can connect to the internet in three ways. For more on this, kindly have a look at our device specification section. In this guide we shall show you how to activate your device in three ways, via a voice/data carrier through the sim card, through wifi bridging and through ethernet.

Connecting through the voice/data SIM

Before proceeding kindly ensure you have put in your SIM card into the SIM port provided on the device. It is located just above the power USB port.

  1. Connect your device to the wall charger via the provided usb cable.  Your status light should come on in the middle part when you connect it. It is advisable to let it charge for approximately 3 minutes before proceeding.
  2. Power the device on using the power button located on the side of the device. This should start the devices Status light to start rotating on the outer link. This is an indication that it is looking for a mode to connect through.
  3. Proceed to look for the wifi signal that the device is broadcasting using your smartphone or computer. In this case, my device is broadcasting a signal with the alias:
  4. Proceed to connect to it and confirm that you have connected using your wireless utility manager. It is important to note that the device will now be have a similar label with the difference being the alphanumerics after the underscore. This varies depending on your operating system
  5. We then need to go to our browser and visit the following URL: local.brck.com. You will then be presented with the screen below.
  6. Because we are connecting via SIM card, your SIM carrier may require you to put in your PIN number and/or APN. The APN may not be necessary sometimes as we are constantly expanding our list of supported carriers. However the PIN number is a necessity and it is required to use the device. Click on the SIM card option

  7. Proceed to put in the APN credentials along with your PIN number in the screen that loads as shown in the image below.

Click on save to commit your changes.

  8. Once you have done this, you should notice your device status lights spin on the outer ring. You can then proceed to load any URL.You will then be redirected to the following page on your browser  my.brck.com .This will then proceed to load a page similar to the one shown below.

  9. If you are a new user, then proceed to the sign up section. If not, you may proceed to log in with your account credentials. The image below shows the screen you expect to see at this stage.A screenshot of the sign up section is as shown below.  After filling in your credentials and clicking create account, you will then be presented with the screen shown below.

  10. You will then be redirected to the login screen to login with the credentials you have used to sign up.

  11. After logging in, you will be presented with the brck cloud management dashboard as shown below.

Congratulations!!! You have successfully registered and activated your device.

Connecting through the ethernet port

It is also important to note that the steps below all assume that you have connected your device to a power supply for about 3 minutes before turning it on.

Kindly ensure you do not have a SIM card in the device. You then need to ensure that you have an ethernet cable plugged into the ethernet. The assumption made here is that your ethernet cable is plugged in on the other end to a source of internet connectivity.

  1. You can then proceed to look for the wireless signal your device is broadcasting using your device's wireless broadcasting utility.
  2. In my case, my device is broadcasting a wireless signal with the name: BRCK_10FEEDC32C06 as shown below.
  3. You then need to proceed to visit the following url with your browser my.brck.com . This will load a screen similar to the one shown below.

  5. You will then be redirected to the login screen to login with the credentials you have used to sign up.
  6. After logging in, you will be presented with the brck cloud management dashboard as shown below.

Congratulations! you have now registered and activated your device.

Connecting via Wifi bridging

Kindly ensure you do not have a SIM card in the device. You then need to ensure that you have wifi connectivity in the area you are in.

To activate your device via wifi bridging, kindly follow these steps:

  1. You can then proceed to look for the wireless signal your device is broadcasting using your device's wireless broadcasting utility.
  2. In my case, my device is broadcasting a wireless signal with the name: BRCK_10FEEDC32C06 as shown below.

  3. Connect to your device. Ensure this change has taken place by using your wireless utility manager. In this case the screen shot below offers confirmation.
  4. We then need to go to our browser and try and browse to any URL. It should redirect us to visit the following URL: my.brck.com. Your browser should load a page similar to this one.

  5. If you are a new user it is advisable for you to proceed to the sign up section. If you already have an account, or if you have a previously registered brck, then proceed to the next step. In this case, we assume that you are a new user and therefore proceed to the sign up section. The screen shot below shows the kind of image you expect to see on your screen. After filling in your details and clicking on create account, you should see a setup complete message as shown below.
